Colorful English Country Home

This picturesque country home featured in El Mueble is located in Hampshire, a county on the southern coast of England. So charming and cozy, each room is a delightful mix of soft fabrics, warm textures and pretty colors! I wish I could jump right into these photos, curl up on the bed or sofa and read a book! The kitchen couldn't be any cuter here...love the display of colorful canisters and doors opening up to the garden! See more beautiful images of this home here – just click on GalerĂa!

Spartina by the Sea

When we came home from our trip to the 30A area of Florida, I was more obsessed than ever with seeing the inside of those beautiful homes! "Spartina by the Sea", a vacation rental in WaterColor, certainly did not disappoint my curiosity! I love the cozy and open kitchen, living, and dining area with its soft blue planked walls! The porches are so dreamy too, especially the sleeping porch upstairs...talk about the perfect napping spot! Get all the rental information and see lots more photos right on over here!

Turquoise Spa-Inspired Bathroom

A bathroom this amazing is few and far between! The sad thing is I don't even know who designed it! Does anyone know?? I saw a pic of the shower on BHG and did a Google image search only to discover the rest of the images on a real estate website–which I was super excited to see because this space is absolutely incredible! The glass mosaic tile is drop dead gorgeous, but the slatted wood platform outside the shower is genius! The heated limestone floor, deep soaking tub with tv and frameless glass shower for two make this the ultimate spa-inspired bathroom! If you guys want to tour the rest of the San Francisco home, head over here next!

Ashley Whittaker Design

This beautiful Greenwich, Connecticut home by New York City designer Ashley Whittaker photographed by Francesco Lagnese and James Merrell is brimming with cool blues, greens and grays for look that's so fresh and pretty! I can't even pick a favorite room! Love the dreamy blue bedroom, the kitchen with the Urban Electric lanterns, the bedroom with the Quadrille-swathed bed and the bathroom with the whimsical Cole & Sons Woods wallpaper! You can see lots more photos of the home here, as well as an article about it from House Beautiful here! And take a look at a flash-back post to one of my all-time favorite homes designed by Ashley Whittaker here!

I can't believe it but it's already time for another Wesley update! The little man turned 8 months old on Easter, so I got a quick photo of him in his cute little outfit before church. These chair pics are getting a lot harder to take now...he just wants to crawl right off!

Cutest thing ever, right?! ;)

Simple window treatments for basement windows

Basement windows are often a  challenge to decorate because they are usually small,  spaced, and high on the wall - a recipe for  decorating disaster.   This post provides solutions for these problem windows based on the premise that  simple is best.  Keeping things light and airy will not draw attention to the negatives of  small size and awkward placement.  All links  to these spaces can be found on my Pinterest board .

Shutters and  valances  work when windows are a little larger

This space would work equally well without the valances if you like a less layered look. Keeping everything light also detracts from the high placement as you can see in this space and the one below.

White blinds on a white wall
One of my favourite looks for a basement space is to keep everything light and add  darks in art or accessories. White faux wood blinds are very functional because they let light in and provide some privacy in the daytime.  In this room the floor acts as a great foil for all the lightness and the hits of dark in art and furniture break up the space.

Nothing works better than functional shutters in a basement. They are sleek and unobtrusive and look tidy.

Etched glass or window film

What about  adding something directly to the glass?  Etching  glass is so simple these days with beautiful stencils and spray etching available. You can also buy so many window films that provide a degree of privacy without too much fuss. If you aren't sure if you would like the look of etching try window film first because it is removable.

Light walls and light draperies

Sometimes draperies work with short windows. I personally prefer that they are a similar colour to the wall, but there is a place for darker ones.  Because the sofa is below these windows it helps to break up the long expanse of wall below each window.

Sometimes you can add something vertical below the space to visually fill in the awkward space.

In my next post I will discuss more complex  basement window options that are sure to wow and  convince visitors that they are not in a basement. And what about your house?  What is your preferred window treatment for basements?

Christopher's Home Furnishings of Nantucket

I never tire of a classic blue and white color palette, especially at the beach! Christopher Gibson of Christopher's Home Furnishings of Nantucket blended sky and sea blues with crisp whites for a calm, serene mood in this beautiful home. I absolutely adore the cozy, light-filled living room here–those chairs are fantastic and look awesome with the rug! Seriously loving the kitchen too...what a dream space! See more of this gorgeous Nantucket home here!
